This can be an achievable reality for you with the help of certain essential oils which bring clarity, relaxation and possibly a spiritual connection. According to health advocate, Dr. Josh Axe, frankincense will immediately induce the feelings of peace, relaxation and satisfaction. When inhaled, it has been shown to reduce heart rate and high blood pressure, as it reduces anxiety and depression. All this comes without the negative side effects that prescription medications can bring. Add a few drops of frankincense to a hot bath for stress relief or you can also add frankincense to an oil diffuser or vaporizer for experiencing relaxation in your home at all times.


Lavender is an essential oil that is frequently used to aid those who suffer from stress, anxiety, depression and insomnia. The University of Maryland writes that scientific evidence suggests that “aromatherapy with lavender may slow the activity if the nervous system, improve sleep quality, promote relaxation, and lift mood in people suffering from sleep disorders.” Some studies even showed that it can help reduce agitation in people with dementia. Lavender is beneficial when used in a massage, served as a tea, used in a bath, or even rubbed directly on pressure points on the body.


Chamomile is a herb that can help reduce anxiety, ease insomnia and calm upset stomachs. In fact, chamomile’s soothing effects have been proven in many studies including one conducted at the UK’s University of Nottingham Medical School which found that chamomile significantly relaxed blood vessels and smoothed muscle fibers. As an essential oil, chamomile can be applied directly to the skin. It can also be served in tea or taken in capsule form.

Lemon Oil

Citrus scents are known to be effective as soothing scents and lemon oil is chief among them. According to Barbara Thomley, lead coordinator for the Complementary and Integrative Medicine Program at The Mayo Clinic says the mild lemon scent will “send you to a positive place.” Adding to this a study at UK’s Northumbria University found that exposure to the scent can improve cognitive performance and mood. For best results, apply some to the wrist to enhance performance and attitude.


With its many chemical compounds that promote wellness and healing, it is no surprise that rose is effective at fighting depression and promoting relaxation. Not only can the scent of a rose bring a smile to your face, but the journal ‘Complementary Therapies in Clinical Practice’ recently published a study if postpartum women. Those exposed to rose aromatherapy twice a week showed a marked improvement in general anxiety disorder. Rose oil can also be effective in aiding the stress and anxiety related to sexual performance in men. Rose has been shown to balance sex hormones and increase sex drive. For best results, use in a diffuser or apply directly to skin.
